The thyroid is a small gland located in the neck that produces hormones to regulate metabolism. A thyroid disorder can negatively affect a person’s quality of life. This course explains what a thyroid disorder is, its impact on health, and how best to help residents with a thyroid disorder.
Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the normal anatomy and physiology of the thyroid gland and related endocrine organs
 - Identify the thyroid gland and its location, as well as its role in the endocrine system
 - Recognize the signs and symptoms of thyroid disorders
 - Know the risk factors for thyroid disorders
 - List the treatment options for thyroid disorders, as well as the potential complications of each treatment
