Description

The residents and staff in long-term care facilities are at higher risk of infection than the average population. Infections acquired in healthcare settings account for as many as 380,000 deaths annually. 


Infections add to healthcare costs, increase hospitalizations, and lead to diminished quality of life for your residents. For these reasons, infection control must be one of the primary goals of care in your facility.

Objectives

By the end of this course, users will be able to:

  • Describe the different ways pathogens can spread and what factors contribute to how contagious a disease is
  • Highlight the aspects of long-term-care that contribute to the spread of pathogens
  • Utilize the recommended methods for preventing the spread of pathogens
  • Take steps to protect staff from becoming infected and contributing to the spread of pathogens
  • Understand the main steps for containing an outbreak
