Description

There is increasing evidence that music can spark compelling outcomes even in the very late stages of Alzheimer's and other dementias. Music can shift mood, manage agitation, stimulate positive social interactions, facilitate cognitive function and coordinate motor movements. No wonder then, that the subject of the effects of music on dementia care has become so popular.

Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will:

  • Become familiar with the functions performed by certain parts of the brain.
  • Understand how Alzheimer's and other dementias (major neurocognitive disorder) affect brain function.
  • Learn how the brain processes and understands music.
  • Name ways music can help brain function, particularly in reference to challenges caused by dementia.
  • Practice creating a personalized playlist.
